Protestant Reformation
During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance the Catholic church was the main church. Some people thought the church was to much to handle. The churches demand for Indulgences was just not fair, and had no right to take over whatsoever. The pope had more power than the kings, and kingdoms started to turn their backs on the king. Something needed to change, and Martin Luther was the man to make that change. The image below shows a Catholic priest collecting indulgences.
Without Martin Luther we wouldn't have had the Reformation. He wrote up 95 theses in his Vernacular about what was wrong with the catholic church and nailed them to the churches door. The church didn't approve of the way Luther acted, and excommunicated him. This didn't surprise Luther however, he began to start his own church, the Protestant church.
England changed to Protestantism. King Henry VIII of England wanted a son to be the next in line to become king, but his wife just kept having girls. He thought this was her fault and wanted a divorce, but the Catholic church wouldn't let him. Henry disapproved of this, so he passed a law ending the Pope's power in England and started a new church, The Anglican Church or The Church of England.
